Convenient hotels near the railway stationIrrespective of where you stay in Poland it is often convenient to spend the last night before your return home near Krakow Glowny railway station for fast access to the airport and home, especially if you have an early flight. The airport shuttle train leaves every hour and half past the hour from Krakow Glowny to Balice Airport, Cracow from platform 1 (peron 1). The easiest way to buy tickets is from the ticket seller on the train. There are machines on the platform and even in the train itself which are slightly cheaper but tend to be switched off. A shuttle bus operates between the station and the terminal at Balice. The first stop for the shuttle bus is the domestic terminal, and the second the international terminal. The terminal is also within walking distance but you may prefer to ride with luggage. Hotels close to Krakow Glowny railway station and bus stationThere are three hotels which face the square where the railway station and shopping centre Galleria Krakowska are situated. All are literally across the wide road. These are the Polonia Hotel (Tel: 0048 12 422 12 33 - they speak English), Warszawski Hotel and Europejski Hotel. We can only speak of our experience at the Polonia hotel because have never stayed at the other two near the main station in Krakow. In our experience the Polonia Hotel is like a pair of good quality comfortable slippers that have seen better days but because they're comfortable you continue to enjoy despite the fact that they're a touch shabby. The hotel has some beautiful aspects such as the stained glass and traditional entrance halls with lace table coverings and potted palms. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful (have not charged for printing out documents such as car hire vouchers), the food is good and if you opt for the set dinner menu, exceptionally good value. The rooms are clean, have modern en-suite shower rooms with hairdryers and a reliable supply of hot water. It would be better if the dowdy old bedspreads were removed entirely because they detract from the rooms and are entirely unnecessary. The beds are reasonably comfortable and bottles of mineral water are supplied. We find this hotel adequate for a good night's sleep before returning home plus it's just a few minutes walk to the Old Town centre and offers excellent value for money.
