This is the land of the Highlander or gorale people who used to be shepherds. Nowadays, they still dress up for tourists. You see them in their colorful embroidered woollen garb, offering horse and cart or sleigh rides through the snow, in the regional restaurants, steering rafts on the river.
Our holiday home is in the spa and ski town of Rabka Zdroj, about two thirds of the way along the main highway from Cracow to Zakopane. | Castles and places of interest to visit If you head in the direction of the Pieninski National Park and Lake Czorsztyn, which you're likely to if you want to go white water rafting or visiting a collection of old wooden churches, many with onion domes. The countryside is magnificent, you can sail or canoe on the lake, explore castles, eat out in charming country karczmas and have a good time at a low cost.
