It's always pleasant to be able to go on holiday and relax; not to worry about possible muggings or burglary. Rural parts of Poland are generally very safe, there is the occasional incident but the high incidence of people including women and children) walking or cycling through woods alone tends to indicate greater safety than in more highly populated countries such as the UK.

Outdoor Pursuits in southern Poland:

The Polish countryside is simply wonderful for outdoor pursuits; all those open spaces, rivers and forests are perfect for a multitude of outdoor sports and activities.

• The winter is time to ski, snow board and ice skate. There are numerous locations to pursue these sports in southern Poland. See skiing holiday Poland.
• Hiking in the Tatra Mountains and Tatrzanski national park. Enjoy incredible views from the High Tatras. The Gorce hills or Beskids (see Maciejowa) around Rabka are especially scenic; great for walkers who wish to go on a different walk each day but be able to return home to base. This area is also popular with the Poles who visit in large numbers.
• Take a holiday on the wild side with superb outdoor activities such as cycling in Szczawnica (with bike hire), horse riding, canoeing, rambling, orienteering.
• Go rafting on the Dunajec river for a pleasant holiday experience on wooden rafts steered by a boatsman and more fantastic views of southern Poland.
• If you stay in Rabka, there are plenty of cycle paths for and long-distance mountain biking. Very cheap bicycle hire locally.
