Holidays near Lake Czorsztyn in Poland during autumn

The Pieninski National Park and Lake Czorsztyn area is at its most stunning during autumn

Polandautumn holidaysColours of every hue from gold, through red to deepest browns turn this part of southern Poland into a magnificent colourscape that makes everyone want to just stand and stare.

The two medieval castles on Lake Czorsztyn : Castle Czorsztyn and Castle Niedzica stand on opposite banks of the lake and are open to visitors. There is a boat that ferries visitors between the 2 castles during the summer months; also boats for touring the lake.

These photographs were taken in late October when the colours are at their best, although any time between mid September and the end of October is a photographer's dream and ideal for enjoying the south of Poland in full colour.

A popular location for day excursions for Poles who come to walk and sail on the lake, there are plenty of restaurants and pubs near Castle Niedzica for warming meals and drinks; hot mulled wine is a specialty of this region.

Walkers and lovers of nature will find plenty to interest them. We have found autumn crocuses growing wild around the lake. Many of the valleys in the Tatras have drifts of crocuses during spring.

Lake Czorsztyn is on the edge of the Pieninski National Park which is equally beautiful during autumn. Rafting on the Dunajec River is best during autumn because of the lovely displays of colour in the Dunajec Gorge.
