Winter in south Poland

Snowy weather
  • Snowy weather is usually predicted in south Poland from late December to March, the higher the terrain, the more snow.
  • Winters of 2005-6 and 2009 were long with plenty of snow. Temperatures hit lows of -35. Some years have more snow, others less but usually 1 metre of snow from January to early April.
  • Zakopane is the best-known skiing resort in the Tatra mountains, however, there are numerous other ski slopes with ski lifts around Zakopane. It's an ideal place for inexpensive family skiing holidays and fun in the snow. Bring snow shoes and boots, build snowmen galore in the garden of the holiday lets and surrounding fields.
  • The town of Rabka Zdroj offers inexpensive skiing for families with beginners; 4 ski slopes in different parts on the edge of town, plus toboggan run and outdoor ice skating rink.
holidays winterRoads and Transport in snowy winter weather Roads are cleared quickly and efficiently after snowfalls - the Poles are prepared for snow and have an army of bulldozers on standy. Beautiful viewsWhether you ski, toboggan, ice skate or walk, there are some stunning landscapes to enjoy in the winter. Rivers freeze over to leave ice sculptures, icicles glitter like forgotten Christmas decorations on buildings. Warm spiced wine is sold in cafes and restaurants to warm arms and stomach. It's a magical time for the whole family. poland winter lets
