Turn up the country lane on the right just before the school for the blind in ulica Słoneczna, and follow the path. At the fork, take the left route and you will arrive at this small Jewish cemetary and memorial to those Jews murdered by Nazis in World War II. ' This stone is a silent monument to the Jewish people who were murdered at this site. Before World War II, Jews accounted for nearly a quarter of the population of Rabka, where Jewish businesses were an integral part of this vibrant spa town. In 1940 a Nazi execution school was established in the town. A flag, emblazoned with the swastika, was raised above the building and fear descended upon the town. Jewish families from Rabka, and surrounding towns, were brought to the school and executed and Rabka was stripped of centuries of Jewish tradition. |
