The town of Nowy Targ Nowy Targ is the nearest large town to Rabka-Zdroj. Like most Polish towns, it has a central square with a decent cafe, clean toilets, shops, banks etc. The central square in Nowy Targ (photo below right) has a lawned area with flower beds and seating. There is an outdoor coffee shop and tables for the warm summer months. A car park is in the centre of the square, public toilets to one side. A Polish craft shops at one side of the square sells kilim or traditionally made tapestries, embroderies and similar items. These make lovely although fairly expensive gifts. Poles adore their ice creams; a shop facing the square has permanent queues of people waiting to buy the smietankowe or real cream and fruit ice creams. | Driving to Nowy Targ from Rabka
The drive along the main E77 Zakopianska route that runs between Krakow and Zakopane takes you from Rabka to Nowy Targ in about 15 minutes. It's almost all dual-carriageway. An open market is held in Nowy Targ twice weekly, on Thursdays (until 2 pm) and to a certain extent on Saturday mornings (flower and livestock market) and Sunday. It's called a targ which means market and can be found off the dual carriageway in the direction of Nowy Sacz. The name Nowy Targ itself translates as New Market.
Buy woollen goods, sheepskin, leather, wooden carved objects, and home-made foods such as the local cheese and honey, various souvenirs to take home.
Nowy Targ is a fairly busy town - there are plenty of shops in the town centre and also on various industrial estates leading out of town.
There is a railway station and bus station.
